Happy 1st Month!

Happy 1st Month, Baby Ean!

Thank you for coming into our lives, mummy and daddy loves you loads.

Thursday 20 October 2011

The big brother.

It almost 4 weeks since Ean was born and I have been so busy with him and Ethan that I have no time to blog.
Ethan was abit jealous when Ean was born. He did not want me to carry his brother nor feed him. He keep throwing tantrums just to get my attention. And times, I will get so frustrated with him that I almost lay my hands on him. But I will constantly tell myself to calm down first before talking to Ethan.
So now, after almost 4 weeks of spending time with his little baby brother, he seem more willing to accept that he has a little baby brother.
He wants to take part in feeding Ean, helping to change diapers, and even wants to carry his baby brother.
I'm so happy he is loving his baby brother now.

My 26th months old baby.

Ethan just turned 26month yesterday. Sometime I still don't believe that he has grown up so much. Even the way he talk amazed me sometimes.

One night while watching animal planet with Papa ET, ya he loves animal planet. He like to watch tv programs with animals in them. He was asking his dad

Ethan: Oh Daddy, why did the crocodile catch the cow?
Papa ET: It not a cow, it a wildebeest.
Ethan: Orrrrhhhhh,...wilder beast ah. Why did the crocodile catch the wildebeest?
Papa ET: Because he is hungry he going to eat the wildebeest.
Ethan: orrrhhh....daddy can i catch the crocodile?
Papa ET: No you can't.
Ethan: Why Not? I want to 'sayang' him.
Papa ET: Because the crocodile will eat you.
Ethan: But the crocodile eat the wildebeest, he won't eat me because he full!

Then there was the other night....

Ethan: Look mummy, the big fish, the big fish, is catching the seal.
Me: Oh it a Orca, a whale.
Ethan: Orhhh......Oh my Gosh...it catching the seal again.
Me: Yes dear, the whale is hungry so he catching the seal for dinner.
Ethan: Orhhh......

I'm not really sure where did he pick up those words like why not, oh my gosh, orhhh...but it's so cute coming out from a 26 months.

35 weeks and 5 more weeks to go.....

Went to the Gynea on Sat for checkup and had my culture test done.

Culture test is done between 35 -37 weeks of pregnancy to check for bacteria called Group B Streptococci (GBS). The bacteria is usually harmless to adults but if you have it and pass it to your baby during birth, it can cause serious complications, such as pneumonia, meningitis, or a blood infection. The test is done by using a swab to take sample from the woman's vagina and rectum. This procedure is quick and is not painful. The sample is sent to a lab and the result will take up to 2 days. If the result is positive, showing that the bacteria is present, you will most likely to receive treatment with antibiotics during labor to help prevent GBS from being passed to your baby.

Well baby is growing fast and his estimated weight is about 2.8KG now with a head circumference of 33.3cm which is quite big. Ethan was born with a head circumference of 34cm. So if the next checkup if he is getting too big, I will need to be induce again way before my actual date. Which I'm secretly actually happy to give birth early, so is 1st Oct a good date???

Shichida Class 5 & 6

After 4 lessons of Shichida Class, the materials used liked flash cards and songs used were changed to a new batch. Even the homework print sheets given are more challenging now, instead of giving out pictures for the children to colour. Now the print sheets are printed with different shapes for the children to cut and paste to make a picture instead.

Ethan has shown improvement in identifying alphabets and numbers. He could also tell the different between rainy day, sunny day, windy day and cloudy day. He photographic memory is also improving as he could get most of the activities correct.

3 more lessons before the term end but it sad that I have to pull him out temporary for a term as I'm going to give birth soon. I will most probably continue him for the new term in January. Hope he still likes the class then.

Belated Birthday Dinner @ Waku Ghin

Last Friday, my generous and wonderful in-laws ( I'm not just saying this because of this meal, they really are! And I'm grateful for such lovely in-laws) treated me and Papa ET to a belated birthday dinner.
When they suggested this place, I was so excited cause I heard so much about this restaurant and have always wanted to try it. And this wonderful place is......

                                               WAKU GHIN!

Waku Ghin is Chef Tetsuya Wakuda latest restaurant to be open in Singapore. Heard his restaurant in Sydney, Tetsuya needed at least 3 months in advance booking.  Waku Ghin is also rated as one of the the S.Pellegrino world's 50 best restaurant located in Marina Bay Sands.

Upon reaching the restaurant, the door was automatically open by the service staff. We were quickly led to a room with teppanyaki counter that could only seat about 8paxs. They have about 3 rooms of such counters and could only take up to 25pax per seating.

Before we begin our 10 course degustation menu, we were presented with a box of the fresh seafood and it was so fresh that I could even see the lobster moving. The chef explained individually what each item was which will be part of our menu.

1st Course - Tataki of Japanese Bonito with Grated Apple and Daikon.

The fish is very fresh and with the the sweetness from the grated apple, it bring out the flavour of the fish more.

2nd Course - Marinated Botan Ebi with Sea Urchin and Oscietre Caviar.

This is one of the signature dish of Waku Ghin. And one of my favourite dish too. The botan ebi was so sweet and fresh, the sea urchin was creamy and rich, the caviar was to die for. And as you dig more into it, there was a poached egg yolk in it.The combination of these ingredient in this little urchin shell is amazing, words really cannot explain the taste of the wonderful dish. And it was served with a small mother of pearl spoon.

3rd Course - Pan Fried Fillet of Ayu with Daikon and Fennel

This dish look very simple, but yet the fish skin was fried till very crispy but yet the flesh was very soft and sweet which almost melt in your mouth.

4th Course - Pan Seared Foie Gras with Vincotto Sauce and Mango

Having eaten foie gras at so many restaurant, this is the one of the best I have eaten so far.

5th Course - Abalone with Polenta, Tomato and Garlic Cream

Our cute Chef for the night, Chef Cory.

This dish was cooked right in front of us, I would expect the chef to perform some acrobats skills while cooking this but surprisingly there was none. The Chef cook this is such an elegant and graceful manner that the dish turn out so beautifully delicious. The abalone was so tender yet has  crunchy texture, together with the sweetness of the tomato. It really a very refreshing combination.

6th Course - Braised Canadian Lobster with Tarragon.

This dish was also cooked gracefully in front of us, and it only too a few minutes. It taste like lobster bisque which I personally felt abit salty salty for my liking. The lobster was very juicy and succulent, you can really taste the freshness of the meat.

7th Course - Japanese Ohmi Wagyu Roll from Shiga Prefecture with Matsutake and Seasonal Vegetables.

Well this is also one of the signature dish in Waku Ghin. And the melt-in-your-month beef was served with fresh grated wasabi which was grated in front of us. We were told to eat it with a bit of the citrus sauce provided and it tasted very refreshing. I normally do not like to eat garlic on it own but the garlic chips served at the side were very light and fragrant and I was popping them away like potato chips.

8th Course - Consomme with Rice and Flounder.

The chicken broth was boiled and poured over the bowl of rice and fish. The fish was very thinly sliced so it was cooked as the broth was poured into it. I like this light broth and I finish every single drop of it.

We ended our hot dishes with a special tea, prepared in front of us. The chef explained that this tea, Gyokuro, is make using young tea leaves from Kyoto. And only water that is about 40 Celsius can be used if not the hot boiling water will kill the leaves and leaving a bitter taste. The cup was really small, so I savoured it slowing and it has a little sea weed after taste to it. Really a very special tea.

After finish our tea, we were ushered to another area for our dessert. It was overlooking the Marina bay and the fountain and laser show was on at that time.

9th Course - Japanese White Peach with Granita of Champagne.

The peach was so sweet and juicy which makes me wanting more of it.

10th Course - Chocolate Mousse Cake.

I'm not a chocolate lover but I must say this chocolate is very nice and rich.

And that was not all, we were also served Petit Fours which consist of matcha chocolate, hazelnut meringue, cookies and macarons. The macarons are the best that I have ever tasted.

.
We really enjoyed our meal very much. It was really an amazing experience, the service was excellent.

The desgustation menu cost about $400 per pax excluding beverages. I would not say it worth it but I think the overall experience was very good, the seafood were all very fresh and an amazing dining experience.

33 weeks and 7 week more to go....

Went to the gynea yesterday with Ethan and he manage to see his brother thru the ultrasound scan. We try to point out the head, eyes, nose, legs...etc to him. He seem quite interested as he kept asking what is this, what is that and he keep pointing to the screen and call out 'didi is there'.

We have been trying to prep him for the arrival of his brother. He will sometimes kiss my tummy and 'sayang' it. But sometime he will hit my tummy. So we still don't know if he know if he is going to be a brother. But whatever it is, we hope this 2 brothers will get along.

Anyway back to the checkup, baby is doing fine, growing well. Estimated weight is 2.285 kg. Head is already down, so now we will just need to visit the gynea every 2 weeks till it time.

I really can't wait. Hope the day comes soon.

A day at the Fish Farm

I have been wanting to bring Ethan to a fish farm, so last week, we went to one located at Pasir Ris.
It is call Mainland Tropical Fish Farm is located at Pasir Ris Farmway 1. It has a lot of activities in it's compound, like pawning, fish spa, "longkang" fishing, fish feeding....etc.

The farm is huge, it has many many containers and fish tanks filled with many different types of fishes. I could see Ethan was a bit overwhelmed by the huge place. He seem to lost interest in looking at them. So we decided to go 'longkang' fishing instead.

The 'longkang' fishing cost S$4 for half an hour, pail and net were provided. So you can fish as many fishes you want and at the end you can bring them home.

As it was a weekday, there was not many people around, we had the whole 'longkang' to ourselves. But it not as easy as it seem, the fishes are very clever and fast, we were scooping for the past 10mins and end up with nothing. Ethan was so determined to scoop some himself and refused to let us help him. So we end up getting another set so he won't go home empty handed. In the end, we did mange to catch a few fishes for him to bring home. He was so happy to see them and told the fishes, 'Let's go home now, fishy'

There are also fish food for sale, where you can buy and feed the fishes in the area. They have this giant fish call the Arapaima Gigas which can be as big as 4.5M and  weigh over 1000KG. There are also alot of Koi ponds, and the fishes will surface and follow you to see if there is any food to eat.

Overall, it is a nice place to brings kids to let them experience the 'longkang' fishing and feeding the fishes. We did not have time to do pawning. Maybe next time.

Do you have any other places to share to bring kids? Do share with me. Thanks.
