The Shichida Method

I have heard so much good reviews about this Shichida Method and I'm bringing Ethan for his 1st class today at 23 months old. Not sure if he is too young for this but I have know friends who bring their kids as young as 18 months for the class and it seem to work wonders on them.

"The Shichida Method is found by Professor Makoto Shichida. He is leading a worldwide revolution in education which is changing the way we understand children, their brain capabilities and their learning styles. He is a well-known figure in Japan, having committed the last 40 years to developing techniques to stimulate the early development of the brain.
Dr Shichida was born in 1929 and holds a Doctorate in Education. Over the years, he has founded over 400 Child Academies in Japan. He has also written more than a hundred books (in Japanese), some of which remains on the bestsellers list in Japan.

The Shichida Method is a proprietary right brain training system with more than 40 ears of research and 30 years of track record in Japan, involving special processes and materials created by The Shichida Education Institute. It is such an impressive program that it is entered in the Singapore Book of Records in year 2007 as the only programme that has the highest number of children below the age of two.

The purpose of The Shichida Method Programme is
- to find out your child's good points.
- to cultivate the heart affecting the child's mentality towards learning and
- to rear children who know how to efficiently use the whole brain." (Taken from the Shichida Website and information booklet.)

The class that we attended today has 5 students, age ranging from 19 months to 27 months. Some are new and some have attended at least 1 term. We were told to sit behind the child and join in the activities together. The class started with an introduction song in Japanese and ended with a farewell song in Japanese. The lesson duration was 1 hour and 15 minutes. The class activities too up 55 minutes and the last 15 minutes was used for discussing home practice activities. The activities in class changes every 3-5 minutes in a very fast pace and is done repetitive. The flash cards are flashed at a high speed that I can't even see some of them. And I'm surprised that the kids are able to follow. At the end of the class, the teacher will be writing her comments in this Child Observation Book and after that we too need to write our comment on what we have observe of our child. As it was our 1st class today, Ethan has shown interest in the class. He participate in every activities and shown eagerness in the them. I hope this will last for the next 9 weeks and I will be updating on each progress for this class so stay tuned!.
